EXIT HERE This Young Adult novel by debut author Jason Myers is grippingly real. You knew these people back in high school; you may be surprised to remember just how bad you yourself were back then. Meyers' kids party, fuck and fight in this chronicle of one rich kid's aimless summer after dropping out of college. The dialogue and the situations are real, and serious as a heart attack. And they're bad, bad, bad. Protagonist Travis is no angel, but even he's getting sick of some of the shenanigans that are going on. Lies, theft, deceit, drunk driving, cheating, and a general feeling of upper-middle class malaise suffuse the book. A great beach or airplane read. The pages keep turning. You may hate yourself in the morning, but it's worth it. --Aloysius Ungart |
