The Tao Te Ching has a sequel. This was a surprise to me, so, despite the fact that this book is over four thousand years old, I thought I would review it here.

This translation, by Brian Walker, is suspiciously New-Agey. This text, unlike the Tao Te Ching, was transmitted orally. Apparently, during the Cultural Revolution, all the copies were destroyed, and Taoist monks memorized them.

I personally like the D. C. Lau style of the Penguin Classics version of the Tao Te Ching-- and I wish we could have some of that style here. Walker seems to have rainbows and unicorns and various trickster gods running all up and down his thesaurus. Probably some dreamcatchers and Whirled Peas in there as well.

Still, if you liked the Tao Te Ching-- and by "liked" I mean if you were electrified, terrified, built up and demolished by it-- you'll have to settle for Walker's translation for now, and it's better than nothing!
