FINAL THEORY Final Theory is a tepid, predictable, plot-turny, coincidence-depending technothriller based on the premise that Albert Einstein did, in fact, come up with a Grand Unified Theory, and that, recognizing the destructive power of its implications, concealed it. A science writer (much like the author) is drawn into a nefarious web of deceit when his former mathematics mentor dies in his presence after being tortured by a sadistic Russian mercenary. This science writer, now possessing the key to the biggest science scoop in the history of science journalism, and being chased by both the abovementioned sadist and the alternatingly ruthless and bumbling agents of the United States Government (as directed by an amoral and heart-attack prone VP) chases down a trail of telegraphed clues to a final confrontation at the edge of Armageddon. Ultimately, he makes the choice to forever lose this knowledge, under, I suppose, the assumption that Einstein had a preternatural ability that will not soon be repeated. --James P. Kirpak |
