WONDERDOG There
are books for various drug subcultures, including alcohol, and this is
a booze book. Dev Devaney is the Governor's son and wastrel,
squandering the good fortune life has handed him in a series of drunken
adventures, while refusing-- to, one would think, the greater good of
the good citizens of Mississippi-- to run for Governor himself.
Dev is charming in a sort of George W. way, and he parties with a bunch of zany Southern characters. The prose often becomes fascinated with itself as the author experiments with sound and language. WONDERDOG fulfills the first and perhaps most historically important function of literature-- it kills time effectively. Recommended for males who like to paaar-tay. --C. B. Coble |
